Wahhaj's father, also called Siraj Wahhaj, is a controversial New York imman. The elder Wahhaj was the first Muslim to offer the opening prayer for the U.S. House of Representatives. A spokesman for the elder Wahhaj claims he had "no knowledge" of the alleged weapons training being conducted on the New Mexico compound. Prosecutors contend that weapons training was the reason the 11 children were at the property. Police found what they considered to be a makeshift shooting range on the compound.
