Why Are High School Students Being Recruited for Corporate America? Right now in the U.S., there are more job openings than unemployed workers. In order to fill the gap, some corporations have been training high school students the skills currently needed in the labor market. The training is a six-year program called P-Tech. Students grade 9-12 can enroll and earn both a high school and associates degree in a science, tech, engineering or math-related field. More than 400 companies have partnered with 79 public high schools across the country to offer P-Tech. IBM was the first to institute the program with a high school in Brooklyn in 2011.
