Ummm, I don’t know who he thinks he’s talking to.If you don’t have one you’ll never understand. He and many other mushers cutlrrently or in the past bring in low-performance dogs for euthanasia every year to the animal shelter (some save themselves a trip and humanely shoot them at home and bring in the bodies for disposal). It’s not cruel, though maybe a bit cold-hearted. However, it makes sense from a business standpoint, they breed many litters over the years and don’t have the money or time to care for all of those dogs, especially when they might not be good on a team. This state is overrun with huskies and husky mixes, so finding good homes for each and every non-performer is unrealistic. I’m not saying what they do is cruel, but euthanasia and culling is an ugly truth to this sport. It’s like people in horseracing not wanting to admit how many horses end up breaking down on the track or in feed lots bound for slaughter every year.
