Joel Singletary of Florida recently caught the largest catfish ever recorded in the state but missed out on actually setting a record due to a technicality, reports WMBB. The behemoth fish weighed in at 120 pounds, which is nearly double the state's title-holder.  What prevented the fisherman from getting his catch on the books was the way he caught it.  Singletary had snagged the fish by using a trotline, which, according to the Sun-Sentinel, is "basically a long, heavy line with multiple hooks at intervals that can span the width of a river or stream and be left in the water." Florida rules dictate that to qualify for a record, the fish must be caught using the "active hook-and-line method."
