Who is stronger, the blazing Sun or the proud Wind?\r

The Wind and the Sun\r
A Santali folktale\r
One afternoon, \r
the Wind and the Sun \r
were having an argument \r
about who was stronger.\r
Ive uprooted huge trees \r
and drowned millions of ships. \r
You cant do \r
either of those things, \r
said the Wind proudly. \r
The Sun smiled and shrugged. \r
That doesnt mean\r
youre more powerful, he said. \r
I can cover you with clouds \r
so that no one can see you! \r
You cant do that to me, \r
said the Wind. \r
But the Sun just smiled warmly. \r
I still think \r
Im stronger than you, \r
he said calmly. \r
The Wind began to grumble. \r
He didnt like the idea \r
of the Sun being stronger than him. \r
Why dont we have a test? \r
the Wind finally suggested. \r
He whipped around, \r
looking for something \r
to show off his strength. \r
Shall we see who can knock down \r
the most number of houses? \r
he asked. \r
Lets keep it simple. \r
See that man over there? \r
asked the Sun. \r
The Wind looked down \r
and saw a man \r
walking down a road. \r
He was whistling happily to himself \r
and had a shawl \r
thrown across his shoulders. \r
Shall we see who can force him \r
off the road first? the Wind asked. \r
No, that will only hurt him,”\r
the Sun replied. \r
“Lets just see \r
who can take his shawl off.” \r
The Wind shrugged \r
and whipped around the sky. \r
He huffed and puffed \r
and made the leaves \r
in the trees shiver. \r
The man frowned at the sky \r
and wrapped his shawl \r
tightly around himself. \r
Thunderclouds appeared in the sky. \r
Animals began running for shelter \r
and the Wind began to roar. \r
The man wrapped his shawl \r
even tighter.\r
Soon the thunderclouds drifted away. \r
The Wind had blown himself out. \r
I give up. I cant do it, \r
panted the Wind. \r
He curled up on top of a cloud \r
to catch his breath.\r
Now its my turn, said the Sun. \r
He yawned lazily \r
and stretched his rays. \r
He seemed to grow brighter \r
and bigger in the sky. \r
Soon it was as hot \r
as a summer day. \r
The man looked up at the sky \r
and wiped the sweat off his forehead. \r
What strange weather \r
were having today! \r
he said to himself. \r
Then he took his shawl off \r
and tucked it under his arm. \r
Looks like you win, \r
the Wind agreed cheerfully. \r
He clapped his hands \r
and made the leaves on the trees rustle. \r
You dont have to knock a man down \r
to take his shawl off, \r
said the Sun with a teasing smile. \r
They laughed together \r
and watched the man \r
walking down the road, \r
again whistling happily to himself.\r
