Toys 'R' Us to Close or Sell All US Stores All good things must come to an end as the iconic retailer plans to shut or sell all of its nearly 800 stores in the U.S. For 50 years, the company sold toys toys, Roughly 33,000 employees are now at risk of losing their jobs. Toys 'R' Us initially filed for bankruptcy in September in hopes of shedding debt and reinvesting in its stores. However, stores, like Walmart and Target, sped up the demise of Toys 'R' Us. Toys 'R' Us also plans to close hundreds of stores worldwide.
