United Airlines Almost Replaced Bonuses with a $100,000 Lottery The lottery idea was thrown out after backlash from a lot of the company's 90,000 workers. In addition to $100,000 given to a random employee, 1,300 other would receive small bonuses of $2,000 or $5,000. There were also 50 vacation packages available and 10 Mercedes. By implementing the lottery, a majority of the of United's employees would have been missing out on up $1,500 in bonuses per year. Our intention was to introduce a better, more exciting program, but we misjudged how these changes would be received by many of you. We are pressing the pause button.
