The ceremonial start of the 50th annual Iditarod Trail sled dog race got under way on Saturday, March 3, down 4th Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska. Sixty-seven teams are competing to win the “last great race.”The race officially gets going Sunday morning in Willow, as the teams begin the 1,000 mile trek to Nome, following mostly the route used by freight sleds during the settling of Alaska.
