According to a report by the Washington Post, the US Food and Drug Administration has shut down an experiment on nicotine addiction that used squirrel monkeys as test subjects. The post reports that twenty-six monkeys will be moved from the Arkansas National Center for Toxicological Research to a sanctuary. The study, which began in 2014, involved the monkeys self-administering nicotine by pulling a lever until they were addicted, then scientists lowered the doses and observed the effects.
