The Struggle to Build an Indigenous Community Police in Mexico

Nestora Salgado, a migrant and an activist, came home to Guerrero to find her town plagued by organized crime and corruption. After she helped organize an independent community police force there, she was thrown in jail. Public pressure led to her release and since then Salgado has dedicated her life to freedom for political prisoners and the construction of a people's policing model as an alternative to militarization.
