Father watches as Thailand flash flood destroys house

A father watched in horror as a flash flood destroyed his family's house.

Sornram Jriensri, 24, was forced to flee the single-story building after heavy rain caused a deluge in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Thailand.

The father-of-one watched from the other side of the road as a powerful torrent first ripped off the front half of the building and washed it away. Just a small part of it was left standing after the water subsided.

Somran and wife Hemmawan, who have a son Nong, three, and live there with his aunt, now face a bill of at least 500,000 Baht (11,400GBP) bill to rebuild the home after the floods which have so far killed at least 15 people across Thailand’s southern regions.

The chef said: ‘’The flood came very fast and strong in one go. The house broke down. It took a long time and a lot of money to build the house.

‘’I was shocked at how powerful the water was. One moment there was a road and suddenly it became a river. More powerful than the river.

‘’I’m sad. It will take a lot of work to make the house again.''

Tens of thousands of people have been left without power and many more homeless following the floods across southern Thailand.

Nakhon Sri Thammarat has been the worst hit region with at least two people drowned in the waters. The region’s airport was also closed after being swamped by floodwaters.
