A FEMALE teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student has failed in her bid to have the name of the exclusive Sydney school where she works suppressed.
It can be revealed the teacher — who is pregnant — worked at Sydney Grammar School, at Darlinghurst, when she is alleged to have committed six counts of sexual intercourse with the student.
Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge declined to extend an interim suppression order over the name of the school but made a suppression order on the identity of the teacher to protect the students.
The woman did not appear at Downing Centre Local Court this morning when her lawyer made the application.
She has not entered a plea to six counts of having sexual intercourse with a person under care between 17 and 18 years, and one count of indecent assault.
It is alleged the teacher commenced a relationship with the boy in January this year.
The Daily Telegraph understands the alleged relationship ended in March and the student reported it to a school counsellor last month.
A police source told The Telegraph the teacher sought medical treatment after the school suspended her.
Court documents allege some of the offences took place at the woman’s home where she is alleged to have had sex with the boy twice, and indecently assaulted him by kissing him some time between January 1 and February 1 this year.
It is also alleged the teacher had sex with the student four times at the school between February 1 and March 31 this year.
Sydney Grammar released a statement following the court case today, with the headmaster confirming NSW Police had charged a member of the staff at College St “with serious misconduct of a sexual nature”.
“As soon as the school became aware of the allegations, the employee concerned was suspended and forbidden to have any contact with pupils pending the outcome of the matter,” the headmaster said.
“Parents at the school were written to about the situation, and support has been provided.”
The case has been adjourned to December 8 for mention.
The teacher fronted Newtown Local Court last week with her husband by her side, where she was granted bail after her mother posted a $30,000 surety.
