Mississippi school changes name from Jefferson Davis to Obama

Davis International Baccalaureate Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi will rename itself after former President of the United States, Barack Obama. The school was named after Jefferson Davis, the Confederacy's only president. The PTA President, Janelle Jefferson, shed light on the decision: The school community wanted to rename the campus to reflect a person who fully represents ideals and public stances consistent with what we want our children to believe about themselves. Jefferson told CBS Jackson Jefferson said the vote to rename the school took three weeks and was included students, parents, faculty, and staff members. The renaming will take place in the next academic year.
