Russia: Funeral held for pilot Yuri Kopylov who died in Syria

A funeral was held for military pilot Yuri Kopylov in the Alley of Glory of the Comintern Cemetery in Voronezh, Friday. More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including the Kopylov's colleagues, relatives and friends.

According to the pilot's guard captain Mikhail Ermolov, "he will be remembered as a versatile person who not only gave himself to his profession, but also paid a lot of attention to the world around him."

"We were very happy that he found a companion in life. For a long time he could not. He had a daughter. They hoped they would have a second child in their family. But life turned out differently. Unfortunately, when performing a combat mission, he died," Ermolov added.

The Su-24 bomber overshot the runway during take off from the Syrian airport of Hmeymim on 10 October 2017. The navigator Your Kopylov and the pilot Yuri Medvedkov did not eject in time and died. Kopylov was 42 years old. He is survived by a wife and a daughter.
