It's the time of the year then NHL executives throw a shitload of money at players they think will take them over the top the next season. Considering how there were a lot of contracts that are already regrettable from last season (ex. Loui Eriksson, Mikkel Boedker, Andrew Ladd, etc.), this may be a reference point in a few months time.
