So today baby Jerry has a really long meltdown. He hasnt had a meltdown this long in a pretty long time. They usually last about 30 minutes when he does, but this evening was different. Just thought I would share and send out some love and light to those that experience meltdowns in their home! The purpose was to let you know that you are not alone, even though I know this world makes you feel like it at times. I also would like to share a common misconception with tantrums vs meltdowns. For those that dont know, autism meltdowns are different than tantrums. It is sad to me when I read many forums on the internet of misinformed people stating that children with autism are just bad or spoiled. No, they are not. Tantrums are goal driven and can be controlled when a child is given what they want. Meltdowns are uncontrollable and they result from being overwhelmed/sensory overload/etc. During Jerrys meltdowns, baby Jerry likes to either self soothe or be held and rocked in my arms with me humming a song to him like you briefly saw in this video. That slowly, but surely helps calm him. Thank yall for all of the love and support you have shown our family! 9,784,112,490 views ➔
