Armored vehicles could be seen cruising through the countryside of western Ukraine on Wednesday as both NATO countries and Ukrainian armed forces took part in the Rapid Trident multinational training drills.

Some 15 countries took part in the exercise, with approximately 1,300 personnel on site in the town of Yavoriv. Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Germany, the UK, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the US all joined in with the "peacekeeping and stability operations."

Drills included the use of BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-80 armored personnel carriers and ZIL-131 heavy trucks.

The exercise will continue until Sept. 26.
