Philippines: President Duterte's son denies drug smuggling

One of the Philippine president’s sons has denied accusations of involvement in a drug smuggling operation.

A senate inquiry is aiming to determine whether or not Paolo Duterte and his brother-in-law helped ship 104 million euros’ worth of methamphetamine from China to the Philippines.

It comes amid President Rodrigo Duterte’s deadly crackdown on drug crime.

A customs broker who initially said he’d heard the pair’s names mentioned in connection with the consignment has since retracted his statement.

The president has promised to resign if it’s proved that any family members are involved in the drugs trade.
