MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' co-host Joe Scarborough has written a blistering op-ed advising first daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, to “move back to New York.”
In the commentary, published by the Washington Post Thursday, he writes about Ivanka, “Her decision to sit alongside foreign leaders at the recent Group of 20 summit in Hamburg was slammed as ‘grotesque’ and ‘banana-republicky.’”
He then blasts her recent tweet about the new White House chief of staff where she says, “Looking forward to serving alongside John Kelly as we work for the American people."
The former U.S. representative writes, “The real estate heiress not only appeared to be claiming the West Wing as her territory, but she also betrayed a troubling sense of entitlement that one might expect from other billionaires’ daughters but not this one.”
Scarborough then turns his attention to Kushner, stating, in part, “The quiet diplomacy Kushner employed so effectively during the campaign gave way to the sort of stubborn arrogance…Trump’s shocking victory led his son-in-law to believe he could reinvent government like Al Gore, micromanage the White House like James Baker and restructure the Middle East like Moses.”
He goes on to mention a recently leaked tape where Kushner can be heard talking to interns about the difficulties of a Middle East solution; the White House adviser told them, “We don't want a history lesson. We've read enough books.”
After pointing out that “nepotism does not work in the White House,” Scarborough ends the piece by saying, “...the best thing they can do for their country is to move back to New York and let professionals run the White House.”
The MSNBC host isn’t the only one who has expressed concerns about the pair; Daniel Kurtzer, a former U.S. ambassador to Egypt and Israel, has reportedly indicated that Kushner’s other notable leaked comment about the Middle East--that there may be “no solution” to the conflict--appeared worrisome.
And a recent column on Vogue.com pointed out the first daughter’s seeming ineffectiveness at having a legislative impact on issues she has advocated for such as LGBT rights and climate change; the piece states, President Trump’s recent “trans ban is just the latest in a string of defeats on what are believed to be Ivanka’s stated causes.”
