French human rights activist Simone Veil buried at Panthéon

Simone Veil, human rights champion and Holocaust survivor, was given a coveted burial at the Panthéon on Wednesday. The Panthéon is reserved exclusively for prominent French figures, most of them being men. Veil will be the fifth woman to be buried in the sacred site, and she definitely deserves the honor. A survivor of Auschwitz, she went on to be a champion for women's' rights, eventually becoming the first President of the European Parliment. Her accomplishments have earned her a spot as one of France’s most devoted public figures.
