Michelle Carter found guilty in texting suicide case

Michelle Carter has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the 2014 death of her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III. Judge Lawrence Moniz' decision comes nearly three years after Roy killed himself by filling the cabin of his pickup truck with carbon monoxide using a gas-powered water pump. Prosecutors said Carter sent Roy numerous text messages urging him to commit suicide. While Roy took "significant actions of his own" to take his own life, Carter's instruction to get back in the truck constituted wanton and reckless conduct, the judge said. Moniz noted Carter admitted in texts that she took no action; she knew the location of the truck and did not notify Roy's mother or sisters. Carter was not taken into custody and will remain on bail. She cannot leave the state of Massachusetts and cannot use Facebook or Snapchat and is prohibited from texting.
