Did you ever know anyone who personally used sensory deprivation? I have. I've known several actors who swear by the process. No one I've worked with recently, this was back about ten years ago. There was, of course, the movie "Altered States" with William Hurt directed by Ken Russell, and these were willing participants involved in sensory deprivation, but for now we're stuck with Earl Holliman in a small-town setting.
What do you think about the idea of selling the show on the basis of this, the first episode?
For me, if I wanted to sell the show, I would do it with "Time Enough At Last" because it really hits you hard, the episode with Burgess Meredith and lack of back-up eye-glasses, but I digress. The pilot did sell. We have no information about ratings, and how well the show performed, but according to my father-in-law when I spoke to him, he said the show was extremely popular at the time.
