Irking Macron, Le Pen Visits Factory Workers in His Home Town

France’s far-right Front National presidential candidate Marine Le Pen was cheered by workers during a visit to a Whirlpool factory that has been the subject of controversy in the home town of her rival, Emmanuel Macron of En Marche! on April 26.Le Pen’s unexpected visit came at the same time as Macron was meeting union leaders for the plant in Amiens, which is facing the loss of jobs because of a plan to move production to Poland, according to The Local.Macron reportedly met union leaders at a local chamber of commerce; asked about meeting the workers at the factory car park, Macron said he would do this later in the day, which he did.He criticized Le Pen for seeking to make political capital out of the workers’ plight. He said he had spent more than an hour with the workers’ union representatives and criticized Le Pen for spending 10 minutes on her visit.
