China launches first domestically-built aircraft carrier

The very first aircraft carrier designed and built in China was launched on Wednesday. The vessel, which was first announced in December 2015, is still undergoing testing and is not ready for operations. The construction of the carrier marks a milestone for China, as the President Xi Jinping’s drive to extend China’s military reach far beyond its shores. The carrier is expected to enter service in 2020.
