Senate is trying to make reporting sex abuse in Olympic sports mandatory

On Monday, 16 U.S. senators put forward a bill that would make it illegal for Olympic national bodies to not disclose child sexual abuse to the authorities, the Indianapolis Star reports. The bill, "Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse Act of 2017," would requite an adult working for an Olympic committee to come forward with the allegations "as soon as possible" or face a possible fine and jail time. This proposal comes during a time that USA Gymnastics is taking heat for not reporting multiple sexual abuse allegations against former team doctor, Larry Nassar.
