A family in Antelope, California is mourning the loss of a loved one who died unexpectedly due to a tooth infection, reports KTXL.
26-year-old Vadim Kondratyuk, a long-haul truck driver, husband, and father of two, began to experience pain after departing for New York about a week ago.
He stopped in Oklahoma to see a dentist and was given a tooth cleaning and antibiotics.
However, after reaching his destination, the situation worsened, and he didn’t feel well enough to make the trek home, notes the Sacramento Bee.
His brother came to pick him up, but as they were driving back to California the problem escalated.
By the time they reached Utah, immediate medical attention became necessary. Kondratyuk was assessed at a hospital and then transported to a medical facility in Salt Lake City.
Doctors there learned the infection in the tooth had moved into to the man’s lungs.
They tried administering stronger medications and dialysis, but were unable to save him. Kondratyuk passed on January 30.
His family has set up a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of raising funds to have his body transported home and to help with funeral and living expenses.
