Donald Trump tweets a lot, and though he has millions of faithful social media followers, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough suggests the Twitter habit is possibly doing irreparable harm to the president-elect’s approval rating.
Some of Trump's recent tweets said, in part, "Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S," and "Totally made up facts by sleazebag political operatives, both Democrats and Republicans - FAKE NEWS! Russia says nothing exists."
Poll results released by both CNN/ORC and the Washington Post/ABC on Tuesday show Trump’s favorability at 40%, which, in terms of modern history, is a record-setting low.
Scarborough noted about the bleak numbers during Tuesday’s 'Morning Joe' broadcast and predicted further decline should Trump continue to wage wars via Twitter.
Said Scarborough, “There's so much other nonsense going on with all of these stupid...and they are stupid fights...stupid fights with John Lewis, stupid fights with the intel community...he's going to be president of the United States, for God's sake. He doesn't have to fight everybody."
He further commented about the president-elect, “He is exhausting the American public before the day he's sworn into power...He's used a time that other presidents have used to see the poll numbers go up, he's had his drop pretty dramatically among independents."
Scarborough pointed out that, historically, once approval ratings dip down to the 30% mark, they do not tend to go back up.
