A group of firefighters who battled the Tennessee blaze for roughly 36 consecutive hours finally got a moment to rest.
A photo shared by a member of the Johnson City Professional Firefighters Association shows the exhausted crew asleep on a sidewalk with their gear serving as pillows.
Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said of the firefighters’ dedication, “They have not asked to be off…They put their own personal needs aside to take care of everybody else.”
The well-deserved break came, in part, from Mother Nature.
Heavy rains fell in the affected area for about 24 hours, greatly aiding in diminishing the flames, notes KUSA.
