At least two people are dead following a series of earthquakes that shook New Zealand's South Island, triggering a tsunami. The first 7.8-magnitude tremor hit the coastal town Kaikoura, about 57 miles northeast of the city of Christchurch. A tsunami arrived about two hours later, with waves 8 feet above usual tide levels, the highest New Zealand has seen in the last two decades. Aftershocks continued throughout the country through Monday morning.
