On Monday, Lester Holt of NBC News moderated the first presidential debate, and his performance in the role spurred an avalanche of memes.
Twitter users couldn’t contain themselves on a number of matters, particularly his apparent reluctance to fully assert the authority his position granted.
One person tweeted a GIF of a drowning man accompanied by the comment, “Recap of Lester Holt moderating tonight.”
Another likened the news anchor to Homer Simpson, showing the cartoon character phased and falling into a bush. It was captioned, “Lester Holt be all…”
Holt’s fact checking interventions were acknowledged with a post showing Jim Halpert of 'The Office' and reading, “Lester: Stop and frisk was ruled unconstitutional. Trump: No it wasn't."
There was also a meme stating, “You Lying But Continue.”
