A man accused of drowning his mother in the pool behind her Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island home gave a video confession described by Robert Biancavilla of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, as, "chilling."

On Wednesday, police found the body of Elizabeth Cullen, age 63, in the back yard of her Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island home.

Her 23-year-old son, Denis Cullen, was soon after arrested for drowning her.

Though he entered a plea of not guilty at his Thursday arraignment, he had given a videotaped confession of the crime.

According to prosecutors, Cullen said his mother confronted him about failing to take his medication and then poked him.

Said Robert Biancavilla of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office,
“After she poked him, he put her in a headlock, walked her from the shallow end of the pool to the deep end of the pool, all the while she struggled. He said she struggled violently, and he was surprised a woman of her stature could struggle as much as she did.”

He also noted, “I’ve had a ringside seat to more human tragedy than you could imagine, but the way he described it in the video, it was chilling — no emotion.”
