Mark: Hi, it’s Mark from Top Local Lead Generation; technical difficulties that slowed us down touched today but we made it through, we’re here with John Nieuwenburg of W5 Coaching in Vancouver one of North America’s top business coaches, how’re you doing today John?
John: Doing great and I admire your persistence to stick it out.
Mark: So, Google cannot defeat us and this is the day when Google announced that Google Hangouts are going to go away and You Tube Live is going to be the new deal and there are some glitches but we persevered and got through it so we’re going to talk about are you getting all the clients you want and what might we want to do about that, what might we want to do John?
John: Yeah, you know I’ve been having this conversation with several clients lately and so there’s a couple thoughts that I wanted to offer on that’s so do you Mr. Business owner, Ms. Business owner, do you have a marketing budget, marketing plan based on a budget and for many of my clients the answer to that is no. Now what that means then is that they’re kind of going about marketing in a scramble reactive kind of way and if that’s how you’re managing your lead generation program then chances are you don’t have the leads that you want so the first most important strategy that you might want to adopt is to work out what is your financial goals, your revenue goals and your expense goals and then what is the marketing plan based on a financial budget that you’re going to use to support those financial goals and so some thoughts on that is as you start to unpack that I’m reminded of a merchant in Philadelphia, John Wanamaker is his name and he’s very famous for this quote “Half of my advertising is wasted, my problem is I don’t know which half” and that’s kind of a funny riddle and that leads us to the first part of having a marketing budget is you can’t manage your budget if you’re not managing your data. Do you know how many leads you’re getting per week, per month? Do you know what the source of those leads are? Do you know what your most successful marketing strategy is? Do you know which is your least successful that you should be abandoning? Are you constantly testing and measuring in order to get that data that John Wannamaker was saying he couldn’t get. It’s difficult, there’s no question about it, it is not easy, if it was easy everyone would do it. The concept is simple though the better quality your data is the better quality, the more dependable your results are in terms of the quality of the data.
