The semi-documentary film “BURMA ALL INCLUSIVE” describes the situation in a country which has, as a result of its political situation, for a long time been isolated from the outside world, but which is now slowly opening up to tourism. Burma offers everything which travel agents and their customers dream of: spirituality and the exotic, coupled with a pristine condition and the Asian joie de vivre. All too often, however, mention is not made of the fact that the lion’s share of tourist dollars finds its way into the pockets of precisely those who have taken this country hostage: the generals. They represent a brutal military dictatorship which takes no notice of the result of the last democratic elections, as it continues to hold the winner under house arrest. Not even the Nobel Peace Prize has changed the situation: Aung San Suu Kyii is still, to this day, isolated from the world outside. According to her: “Burma will still be there when the generals have finally gone” and we would be best advised not to visit the country at all under the current circumstances. However the exotic temptation is simply too great, and there is no going back now that Burma has found its place into the travel agents’ catalogues. This is the starting point for the film. Through a fictitious “All inclusivejourney” it sheds light on the country from all possible and impossible perspectives. Western tourist behaviour meets with the harsh reality of everyday Burmese life. The search for the truth is often willingly suppressed: the film brings another take on “All inclusive”.
