National Day of Action Against Military Recruitment - NYC

Friday, February 15, as part of the national Iraq Moratorium, we acted to shut down military recruitment of our youth and support Berkeley protesters and City Council. As the hundreds of high school students chanted in Berkeley, "Stop the torture, stop the war, this is what we're standing for!"

Weekly vigils by CodePink, confrontations with right-wing, pro-war forces and a non-violent civil resistance action blocking the door by World Can't Wait took place at the Marine recruiting center near Berkeley H.S. The Berkeley City Council sent a letter to the Marine center saying it "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders." U.S. Senators threatened to cut funds while thousands sent support messages. On Tuesday 2/12, 700 Berkeley H.S. students came out to protest Marine recruitment and were attacked by the police and right-wing demonstrators.
