VLC has streaming options, but it has not yet developed compatibility with Google’s Chromecast. Still, there is a way to see your movies on the TV while you playing them on your computer with VLC. First make sure you have yourChromecast hooked up to your TV and the Chromecast extension installed on your computer. Prior to version 42 of Google Chrome you could send any video file to Chrome through the VLC plugin. Hence you just needed to send it to the corresponding Chromecast tab. But Google no longer allows this type of plugins, so we have had to find another way. For example, you can send the entire contents of your PC to Chromecast not only the tab. Start by playing your file locally. Then go to the options and seek the "Send full screen" extension. Then you only have to choose the screen you want to send and, once done, you will have your VLC video reproduced through Chromecast. Oh, and do not forget to put VLC in full screen mode. You enjoy the video.
