The wreckage of a U.S. Navy tugboat that disappeared at sea 95 years ago was recently found off the coast of California.

On March 25, 1921, the USS Conestoga departed from the San Francisco area with 56 crewmembers on board.

When the ship and crew failed to show up at their Pearl Harbor destination, the hunt for the vessel began.

Searches performed focused mostly on areas near the Hawaiian Islands.

It was not found and on June 30, both the ship and crew were declared lost.

What had become of the watercraft and those on board remained a complete mystery until October of 2015, when wreckage found near California’s Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary was confirmed as that of the Conestoga.
