Police fired tear gas near a polling station on the outskirts of Kampala on February 18 as Ugandans voted in a presidential election that could see the end of President Yoweri Museveni’s 30-year rule. Tempers had flared amid long delays to voting caused by the late delivery of ballot papers in several districts. The Ugandan Electoral Commission said it regretted the delays but assured voters that those in line outside polling stations by 4pm would be able to vote.
