Chipotle To Scale Back Its Local Sourcing

Chipotle has said that it would be shifting its sourcing from locally grown items to a more centralized system so stricter food safety measures and testing can be implemented; this change comes in the wake of a large E. coli outbreak linked to the restaurant chain.

Chipotle plans to rely less on one of the factors that made it so successful.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the company is moving away from using locally sourced components and instead, will prepare and package some of its produce--namely, lettuce, cilantro, and tomatoes--in a centralized space.
