Chiwetel Ejiofor is Vincent Kapoor, NASA’s director of Mars operations, a passionate man of science trying to come up with a rescue plan in the face of resistance from the agency’s wily, politically cautious chief, Teddy Sanders, who is played by Jeff Daniels. The excellent cast also includes Kristen Wiig, Michael Peña, Sean Bean, Kate Mara and Mackenzie Davis. Donald Glover does a brief but dazzling turn as Rich Purnell, a Rasta math whiz who comes out of nowhere—out of NASA’s small army of gifted techies, more precisely—to announce he’s found an answer to the problem Kapoor is trying to solve...
