Having beaten the Soviet Union 2-1 and Scotland 4-1, the Brazilians were already qualified for the 2nd round when they faced New Zealand in the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Sevilla on June 23rd 1982. As regards New Zealand, their only player who would later enjoy a mild degree of celebrity is striker Wynton Rufer. Rufer would later play in England, Switzerland, Germany (Werder Bremen) and Japan. Brazil could have easily scored 10 or more goals, but they obviously didn`t want to.
