The World Cup has seen greatness at both ends of the age spectrum. In 1958, a 17-year-old Pelé stunned the world by leading Brazil to its first title, scoring six goals including a final brace against Sweden, and becoming the youngest champion and hat-trick scorer in tournament history. By the end of his career, he was the only player to lift the trophy three times. On the opposite side, Italy’s Dino Zoff made history in 1982 by winning the World Cup at 40, becoming the oldest champion ever. As captain and goalkeeper, his calm leadership was just as vital as Paolo Rossi’s goals. Together, Pelé and Zoff embody the timeless lesson that in football, true greatness knows no age.
