Cuba: FARC Never Consulted About Gov’t Referendum Proposal

The Colombian peace talks, now strengthened by the inclusion of members of the Broad Front for Peace, also continue to face new obstacles. Spokesman Ivan Marquez calls the government’s new proposal for a referendum “strange and exotic” --something that has never been discussed by the two parties responsible for drawing up the mechanisms by which the final agreement will be approved. “We reject it,” saidMarquez.” The Broad Front hails the results of the FARC’s unilateral ceasefires and insists on a bilateral ceasefire in order to reach a final settlement in a more peaceful atmosphere.”
