Chicago River Archetectural Tour - Part 6 (2015) - Short (Documentary)

Took a Chicago River Tour which was narrated from an archetectural perspective. I really learned all about the stories behind the buildings on the river. Really fascinating.

00:00...pictures up here of the curbs of River City with the angles, the straight up and down lines of the taller buildings.
00:09So I want a little audience participation here. I want to ask, the tallest building, that black building, who wants me to call that Willis Tower?
00:17Who wants me to call it Sears Tower? Yay!
00:21I used to work on the 83rd floor there, and I lived up on the northwest side of Chicago
00:27when it was going up and we could see it being built. It was the first time in our neighborhood we could see something in downtown.
00:34So for me, it's much more natural to call it Sears Tower.
00:38It was built in 1974 for Sears, but they moved out in the 90s and sold the building and their naming rights expired about seven years ago.
00:48So the new owners sold the naming rights to the Willis Company, which is an insurance brokerage based in London.
00:55And there's a funny story. Someone who worked at Willis told me the company really wanted their name on the tallest building in Chicago
