00:00on that side of the river because they have to maintain the railroad side of the river
00:05which is here first, even though the railroad doesn't use this bridge anymore.
00:16So ahead of us on the right, the building wrapped in plastic is going to be a new office building
00:22called River Point. It will be finished in 2016, designed by Picard-Tilton.
00:29You can see they're putting some of the wall system, the glass, on the first couple floors.
00:35You can see the color they're using. They're building it on a platform they built last summer
00:39and then this year the developer and the city are building a new city park up there
00:44and they've also built a really nice river walk here already.
00:48And this part of the river now we're coming into where the three branches come together
00:52at Wolf Point forms a Y, and that has been the symbol of the city of Chicago for over 100 years.
00:59There's a Y with a circle around it to represent how important the river and the lake have been
01:04and continue to be to Chicago. And keep your eye out for that symbol
01:08because you'll see it on a lot of buildings in the city as well as in the free park building.
01:13And that green building on the left, there are great reflections in that curving wall.
01:18And the ripple on the glass is actually specified by the architects
01:24because they wanted it to look like the ripple on the surface of the river walk.
01:28It's another post-modern connection there.
01:32So on the right, you see this building going up now, it sort of looks like a Y as it gets taller.
01:39This building is also going to be an office building.
01:42And just the core, just that concrete core goes all the way down to the ground
01:47so there's a little space in here to build between the train tracks and the river bank.
01:52And then it widens out.
01:54That wider size will be the size of the remaining 50 stories of the building.
01:59And it's great that we get to see it going up now because when they cover this over
02:03you'll be able to see the structure in more detail.
02:08So on the left, there is this brown glass and steel building right on the river.
02:13This was built in the 70s.
02:15You can't really follow down through it.
02:17So I'd like to give some credit to Magnus Gundersen, who is the engineer
02:21who designed the building and figured out how to span over this huge auditorium
02:26so they could build on top of it.
02:30And then the next building on the left has two towers and funny corners
02:34connected by a low building.
02:36This was built for one of our big training houses, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, in the 1980s.
02:42And the low building, the terminal tower, used to be a double model.
