00:00Hi, I'm Cal Bramer. For many people, prayer is a personal conversation with God, a plea
00:06for God's help in making something they're desperately wishing for come true. And for
00:11many of those same people, prayer is often a last resort when tragedy strikes. Few of
00:17us know what it is to cry to God from the depths of our hearts when all else has failed
00:21and to hear God answer. And often, it takes a terrible tragedy to bring people to a belief
00:27in the power of prayer. One person who lived through tragedy and cried out to God in prayer
00:33is Janelle Guzman.
00:34My whole life just flashed right before me. I knew to myself, I honestly felt that I wasn't
00:50going to get out alive. I knew exactly where I was going. You know, I was going to hell
01:02because I knew I wasn't right with God at that time.
01:05Janelle Guzman lived life on the wild side. She would be the first to admit it.
01:11I love to party, love dancing, love dressing up sexy, going out there, you know, being
01:18the center of attraction.
01:20In fact, the morning of September 11, little did she know, her life was about to change
01:25forever.
01:26Without any warning, the building just started to shake. And I wasn't really scared at that
01:33time because I thought it probably was an earthquake, you know, so I just stood there,
01:37not moving, I just stood there and waited until it finally stopped. And when it did
01:43stop, I just went over to the window and I saw the bits of debris and stuff, you know,
01:49falling down.
01:50Once she found out that Tower One had been hit by a plane, she started running down the
01:5464 flights of stairs.
01:56I stopped on the 13th floor and without a warning or a sign or anything at all, I just
02:05felt an explosion and the place went completely dark and dusty. I was feeling so helpless.
02:14I couldn't move, so I just stood there facedown with the thought that I'm going to die, this
02:22is it, this is it for me.
02:24Janelle was trapped and buried alive under the rubble of the collapsed tower.
02:29I thought I was dreaming when I woke up. I was like spitting on dust and I said, oh my
02:35gosh, this is not a dream, this is really happening, this is real. And still, I didn't
02:43pray.
02:44Unable to move and hardly able to breathe, she knew she was dying and there was only
02:50one place for her to turn.
02:52And then my whole denial just changed right there and then and I said, God, I don't want
02:59to die, you know, give me that second chance, you know, save my life, I need to be with
03:03my family.
