Inside The Americas - CONAIE's 'Uprising' off to Poor Start

In-depth reports and analysis from our extensive network of correspondents throughout the region. The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) has called for an indigenous “uprising” to take place on August 10. Their demands range from the withdrawal of land and water laws to the rejection of wealth redistribution measures. Many other indigenous groups, however, are suspicious of CONAIE’s alliances with right-wing groups and have chosen instead to participate in the national dialogue proposed by President Rafael Correa. teleSUR
