Officials from Peru’s Ministry of Culture are striving to maintain what they call “control contacts” with the highly reclusive Mashco Piro tribe deep within the Amazon. The tribe members are nomadic hunter gatherers who have no contact with any community outside of their own. For this reason there is a concern about the transmission of modern day diseases to the tribe. Anthropologists believe that the tribe may have has many as 1,000 members. teleSUR
