Chile: Drought Forces Relocation of Bee Populations

Organizations working to protect bees in Chile have been forced to relocate their bee colonies as a result of one of the country’s worst droughts in 150 years. In some cases bee populations have been cut in half. The lack of rain has led to a shortage of flowering plants and therefore pollen, which bees feed on. Throughout the world, the use of pesticides and the loss of habitats are raising fears about the future of bees, which are vital to human food production. teleSUR
