Despite being known for his “one rule,” Batman has killed many times. In his very first issue, Detective Comics #27, Batman punches a thug over a railing into a tank of acid saying, “a fitting end to his kind.” It wasn't until the addition of Robin that a hero with a stricter moral code was needed.
