Brazil’s Workers Party began its fifth congress on Thursday night, in which it is expected to formalize the candidacy of former President Lula da Silva for the 2018 presidential elections. The party has governed Brazil for the past twelve years. Party members will have until Saturday to define a strategy to overcome its current problems. These include the corruption scandal involving the state-owned oil company Petrobras and budget measures adopted by the administration of current President Dilma Rousseff. teleSUR
